Yup, that’s me!
When I look back on my life while growing up in a military family and the places I’ve had the privilege to visit, I always dig up the photos I have that bring me back to those moments. The United Kingom, Austria, Italy, Germany, Japan, South Korea. Photography has the unique role of aiding us in remembering some of our most treasured experiences. Being able to provide that to others brings me no greater joy.
“I want to freeze time and create visual excellence by way of photography”
Is something I imagine I would say in my interview voice if I were asked to summarize how I feel about the hobby turned profession. Making memories for people to look back on and cherish is why I’ve tossed my hat in the ring so to speak. There are usually two feelings people have when looking at old photos of themselves: gratefulness or embarrassment (the latter is only temporary and garners a genuine laugh). Each is valuable in sharing in the human experience with others and as we have learned in more recent times, the value of human connection and empathy is something deeply needed for our own well-being and sense of normalcy.
At Refract Photography, we always strive to get to know our clients at an individual level and have fun while working together to execute the shared vision and capture the moments we can all reminisce about one day. We seek to invoke a feeling all have experienced. The feeling when glancing upon a photo from the past transports the mind back in time to the moment it was captured and all the associated memories leading up to the capture. Photos are the tangible manifestation of our memories and become invaluable as we age. Refract Photography’s aim is to record, preserve, and provide this feeling for others. So let’s get out there, have some fun and capture some memories while we’re at it! I hope we get to work with YOU very soon!

From as early as I can remember (and even before I can remember) there was always a camera in my face. Between my mom snapping photos on her 35mm or my dad recording with his RCA camcorder - photography and the desire to capture moments are some of my core memories as a child. The collection of home videos and photo albums we have is incredible and I am so thankful for the moments captured and memories created and solidified in time through my parents desire to snap away. My parents love was based on their passion for a joint interest in photography and I would learn that this type of shared love would be the building blocks for my own relationships and passions.
Throughout my grade school and high school years, I was known as the ‘girl with the camera.’ Disposable cameras and then point and shoots - I loved nothing more than snapping photos of my friends and I to recollect on good times. My parents always promoted my love for photography of any kind and encouraged me to take photos. I spent a lot of time at the local drug store dropping off film to be developed and remember the excitement of picking up a roll to see what was inside. When digital photography became popular and accessible, my parents purchased me my first point and shoot. I’m embarrassed to admit the amount of photos I have downloaded on CDs but I will never regret the ability to personally capture the most playful seasons of my life.
Fast forward to many years later when I met my then boyfriend, (now husband) William, at the height of the early Instagram days. Outside of our love for getting dressed and looking our best, we both instantly were drawn to one another’s desire to take photos. We’d hop in our cars or go on little trips on the East Coast and snap as many photos on our phones and cameras. It was years later that I realized I was emulating the very life my parents had modeled for me so many years before (and it solidified that I knew this guy was a keeper).
I’ve always been a people person - my day job has me interface with clients on the regular and my passion and gift has always been connection. I am a connector. I love knowing peoples stories and I love capturing them through photos. When Will decided to start Refract Photography, I couldn’t be more proud as a wife and as a friend to watch my husband pursue the very gift he gives light to. He was kind enough to ask me to join his venture as his Client Relations Manager. You can oftentimes find me connecting with clients at the very early stages of the discovery process and sometimes behind the lens!
I understand that there are so many photographers to choose from and how important it is to find a photographer to capture the most incredible life moments. I can’t think of two better people than Will and myself to do that. We love people. We love to connect. We want our clients to feel like they have made a new friend throughout the process and most importantly, we want them to walk away knowing that they purchased the best thing money can buy - moments you can’t get back.
